ABOUT KATE
Welcome.
I’m a teacher, a writer, and a relentless advocate for ethical, sustainable leadership in the mental health world.
I’ve spent over two decades helping therapists become confident supervisors, training the next generation of counselor educators, and pushing for smarter systems in our field—systems that don’t burn us out, break us down, or make us choose between our values and our paycheck.
I’m the founder of Kate Walker Training, where we’ve trained thousands of mental health professionals across the country. I created the first fully online, board-compliant 40-hour Texas supervisor training—and I’ve had the privilege of working with universities, licensing boards, and attorneys on everything from curriculum design to supervision ethics to board complaints.
I consult with counseling programs, speak at national conferences, and occasionally climb onto a soapbox about things like onboarding systems, documentation, and why so many therapists are still working without clear contracts.
If there’s a common thread through all of it, it’s this:
Supervision is leadership.
And leadership requires structure, clarity, and care—for your clients and yourself.
When I’m not building trainings or reviewing supervision cases, I’m probably playing bass in a Texas bar band, reading something nerdy about clinical remediation best practices, hiking, or trying to keep my dog Andy from rattling his collar during a webinar.
You can find my work in CE catalogs, university classrooms, and podcasts like The Abundant Practice Podcast, Through the Eyes of a Therapist, and Therapy Tea—or just head here to find out more about our industry-leading supervisor training courses.
